From August to December 2021, EpiMetrics conducted a training session for the DOH Epidemiology Bureau entitled “Public Health Core Competencies for Pandemics”. It aimed to address the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences on the DOH, the training needs for the EB, as well as build on the core competencies of the public health practitioner of the future. It was led by experts in epidemiology, data science, and health promotion. The learning outcomes were as follows:
- Describe the social, economic, behavioral, biological and environmental factors that affect health and contribute to health inequity
- Know, use, and practice the analytical sciences of epidemiology,
- biostatistics, and data science
- Practice the basic concepts of public health-specific
- communication, including technical and professional writing and the use of mass
- media and electronic technology
- Exercise innovation and creativity in addressing public health
- problems
- Analyze ethical dilemmas in public health policy
- Conduct analysis for health policy development
